AmputeeOT: Words amputees use when referring to our stump, residual limb, little leg, etc.


Hi guys, this is Christina the Amputee OT. In this video, I want to talk about words. I have a question Say you’re an amputee. Okay? You have a lot of different words to choose from when referring to your Leg Some people are offended by the word “stump”, because they think it sounds like a tree. I’m not really offended, and I don’t really have a preference for many particular words; and I really don’t care what kind of words you use to refer to my life. Some common words that people use are: Stump; residual limb; little leg; my personal favorite–Unfoot! Stumpy; The Leg That Wasn’t; The Foot That Wasn’t There; My Big Finger; Nub– I like that one. It’s cute! My leg, my leg. I don’t really care what you call my leg, but I’d like to know what your preference is. If you’re an amputee, I’m really curious about what you call your leg, or your stump, or your residual limb, or your little leg, or your–Ahhh! So let me know! Alright guys. Thanks for watching!
