Baseball – Louisville Series Preview (2020)

It’s finally here,
the 2020 College Baseball Season begins this Friday, and we’ve got one of the best
opening weekend showdowns in the country
being played right here in Oxford, as Ole Miss welcomes
top-ranked Louisville to town. After a regional championship
in 2019, Ole Miss said goodbye to some familiar faces. But that doesn’t mean the squad doesn’t return a lot of talent
who has helped the red and blue find success
over the past few seasons. All-American third baseman Tyler Keenan returns
for his junior campaign. Keenan Hit 285, with a team best
66 runs driven in last year. He’s also developed
a reputation for his power, as evidenced
by his 24 career jacks. With Grae Kessinger drafted
in the second round, veteran Anthony Servideo
makes the move to shortstop after showing off
his versatility in the first two seasons
he spent with the Rebs. And the nation’s second-ranked
recruiting class will fill in the holes
left behind by guys like Ryan Olenek,
Thomas Dillard, Cooper Johnson,
and Cole Zabowski. Some names to keep an eye
on are Peyton Chatagnier, Jerrion Ealy,
Hayden Leatherwood, Cade Sammons,
Cael Baker, and Hayden Dunhurst, who will be behind the dish
on opening day. The weekend rotation loses
just one guy. Freshman all Doug Nikhazy
and former first-round pick Gunnar Hoglund return
for their sophomore season, and they welcome true freshman
Derek Diamond to the mix. The Ramona, California, native will get the ball
in game three of the series. The Rebs and Cards met
twice a season ago, two tough losses to a squad
that would go on to Omaha and finish third nationally. Back in 2016, Louisville came
to town for a weekend series and got sent home
with the series loss. The Rebels have their sights
set on hosting a third straight regional. That all begins Friday. You can watch all three games
on the SEC Network plus, and follow along with updates on
social media @olemissBSC, as well as online
