Baseball Rebellion: Rebel’s Rack Movements – Part 1

So after the Eval process is complete,
where we videoed the Hitter, diagnosed their swing flaws and movement
deficiencies and we’ve gotten their Hit Trax data, they usually bring their bat
and their bag to their next lesson. Well they don’t need either, one all they
need is a line and a Rack. So what I’m gonna do is I’m going to say the hitter
would line up with their back heel on the line and their front foot would be
wherever their normal stance is. So again if they have an open stance, closed
stance, wide stance, I don’t care. they can stand wherever they
want, okay they’re gonna hold the rack just like this as high as it goes under
their armpits, pulling back, not in. You don’t want to flap your wings, you want
to pull back like you’re doing a row okay. So they can get in their stance
and then they can stride however it is they normally stride. Now comes the cues, they must land heel to heel so even if they land closed, they gotta land with their
heel in line, right on the line just like that okay. So if they’re stepping in or
they’re stepping out, those are the things that we would correct all right?
Now as the hitter gets better at landing on the heel, heel to heel position on the
line, we want to make sure that their kneecap is open to the pitcher or to the
mirror okay. So the camera would be where the mirror is and that’s what the
hitters looking at. So the hitter then strides and their kneecap points open at
the camera okay. Now what I’m looking for is there’s no movement at all in the
chest opening like this and their heel to heel with an open kneecap. So all
they have to do is this over and over. Now let’s say the hitter is really fast
and a short choppy stride, we want this tried to be slow, slow, slow so they’re
comfortable with their foot in the air and they’re not rushing to get onto
their front side in the stride. A lot of problems happen with kids and their
tempo and hitters in their tempo whether they’re pro guys or softball players, it
doesn’t matter, is they get really fast and stride and they rush to the ground.
We want to be slow the whole time, no flinching of the front shoulder like
this, nothing hard into the ground like that, slow
every time that’s what we’re looking for. Just a quick side view, still a rack
under the armpits as high as it can go pulling back not in and another key if
the stride is you want to keep your head back over your back hip. So that’s hard
to see from the front view so I’m going to show this from the back view. This is
a change from what we taught in one of my favorite articles, The Ying-Yang
Article, I have a much more forward posture, everybody learns, everybody
changes. We have changed, we evolved and this has been much better. So we’re
looking for is we still have that slow move out with our head back over
our back hip and back knee, no movement of the shoulders opening and that’s what
we’re looking for, head stand back while our hips move out.

  1. Do you advocate a 'toe-to-heel' movement with the stride foot?
    In other words, to get to the front heel, one should first touch down with the front toe?
