Cricket Legend Jason Gillespie Talks About Being Vegan

Hi! Jason Gillespie here. I’m here with PETA talking about veganism. You know, I remember watching a documentary
called Earthlings, and that really just, you know, got me thinking. So I sort of knew that animals were being
slaughtered, but I’d never really seen it with my own eyes. For me, it was a very easy decision to make. I just couldn’t justify consuming an animal
product, and that’s, in a nutshell, why I’m now a vegan. I’ve never felt healthier in my life. I’ve played cricket for, you know, 15 years
as a professional and, you know, I feel really strong now at 41 years of age. Athletes are increasingly coming to the correct
conclusion that you can get all the nutrients you need from a whole-food plant-based diet,
and they’re recovering better, they’re feeling good, they’re feeling fit and strong. Well, I get my protein from lentils, beans,
legumes, chickpeas. The issue of leather cricket balls in our
sport, it is a discussion very much worth having. The game has evolved. I don’t see why it can’t evolve to be
a more compassionate sport. There’s nothing macho about treating animals
terribly, and there’s nothing macho about putting your health at risk. There’s nothing macho about polluting the
Earth. We’re all here on this one marble, and we
just got to work together.
