EXPLOSIVE STRIDE // On-Ice Hockey Training

What’s up guys? It’s Derek from Total Hockey
I’m here with Jeff we’re taking it to the ice now to show you some drills for your explosive
stride. Wooo! First drill I’m going to have Jeff do here
is called inside edges with a hop. Alright, he’s going to go out on his inside edge give
a hop in between and land on his other inside edge. Notice he’s exploding out and not up and he’s
getting that deep knee bend, alright, to get that explosion. Alright, without a knee bend
you’re not going to be able to explode. He’s really driving out because he’s loading up
nice and low. Our second drill here is called linear crossovers.
Alright, these are helpful in getting a big burst of speed as we’re going down into our
normal sprint. Alright, so as opposed to starting from a normal sprint, straight stride we’re
getting those crossovers to get those two pushes in, in the time it would take normally
one full stride. Our next drill for an explosive stride is
a stop and a start with the outside skate. It’s a one footed drill. Alright, he’s going
to start here. He’s going to go three strides out hold that stop and then load up and launch
himself off of that skate. Notice he’s not crossing over here. He’s rotating
the hip out in order to get a great start. So no crossover here, he just rotates into
his first three strides. Remember guys, the whole concept here is loading
and exploding so on that last drill when you’re stopping if you just put the next foot down
you’re defeating the purpose there. You want to load up on the foot that you stop with
and explode off, alright, and drive out. If you guys liked the video subscribe to our
channel. Jeff, why don’t you show them where to go to watch the next one? Right over there. Today we’re in the gym showing you a couple
exercises to work on your stride explosiveness.
