Hi! Everybody This is Reid Guthrie The Home Detective in Seattle Washington and you folks may have heard of a term
called a cricket well you’re looking at cricket I’m not
quite sure where the term comes from but this devices designed to help make
sure that water gets diverted around the chimney
this chimney is about six feet wide if we didn’t have this cricket water could pile up against
the back side the chimney get past the flashing and into the at it can cause all kinds
problems so If anybody asks how your crickets doing
on your roof or if you got crickets on your roof this is

  1. Good video on an important subject. I just want say that chimneys aren't the only items that need a cricket. A cricket diverts water around anything that blocks the flow of water. For instance, roof mounted mechanical units are sometimes installed on a "curb", which is a box platform, those need a cricket. Crickets also direct water into scuppers or drains on parapet roofs.

  2. i ve done many of these , in wales , uk , they should be installed on any obstruction on a sloping roof ,if its over 1.5 m , as lead installed over that lenghth will expand and contract and split with time !!!
