How a Minor Leaguer Gets Ready for Spring Training- Before it Was Cancelled

Hey, what’s up guys, it’s Derek from the baseball Channel coming at you again today with yet another video now in today’s video I’m gonna be showing you guys a former Terp who is now in the Astros organization he got drafted last year and He’s been working out here because he lives in the area and he’s getting ready to go to spring training at the end of this week so I’m gonna have him sit down and talk to you guys tell you about his routine I’m going to show you him working out doing some stuff here So I hope you guys enjoy that and let’s just get right into it. Ok. So here’s the thing. This video was recorded What Wednesday and was recorded Wednesday and that was before spring training was postponed? That was before the NCAA college season was postponed. So this video AJ is talking like he is going to go to spring training, but now that’s postponed Obviously, he’s not exactly sure what’s gonna be happening. No one is really exactly sure. What’s gonna be happening So I want all of you guys to just watch this video and assume that everything is normal the corona virus is not taking over American sports and That’s what we’re gonna go with. It’s still a really informative video. I think you guys are still gonna like it a lot It’s really you know, this is gonna be AJ’s first spring training and now that’s probably not going to happen So it’s really a shame, but I’m still gonna post it And if you guys are all out of school, you guys will have a lot of time to watch it So hope you enjoy make sure you drop a like. Thank you My name’s AJ Lee, I played here at the University of Maryland for four years I left last year and I’m now with the Houston Astros organization. That’s a homer On a typical week, I try to work out 4 times a week, try to get in there for about an hour and a half I come out here and hit 4-5 days a week for about an hour- hour and a half. And then I’m throwing 3 or 4 times a week depending on how my arm feels So I’m trying to get back into the swing of things Trying to get my body ready to go for Spring Training So for me, this offseason I wanted to focus on putting on some muscle So a lot of my stuff was heavy lifting and then some cardio just to stay in shape So I put on about 15-20 pounds of muscle during the offseason which is pretty good for me Kinda what I was looking to do So a lot of that goes into just like I said lifting heavy Trying to do as much as I can in the weight room, eating right, keep my body clean And also doing like cardio agility stuff making sure I’m still mobile and in shape ready to go Their arms are gonna be legit. Yeah They beat UCLA Vanderbilt beat em 4-3 on a walk off, so it’d be my first spring training I’m really just looking to go down there and have fun. I mean it’s a game. That’s what I’ve always looked at As much fun as I can in place hard as I can It’ll take me where it wants to take me and go as far as I can with it If I have that mindset I’m gonna go as far as I want to go Biggest advice I can give Just play hard and have fun try not to get too caught up in all the social media and instruction All the outside stuff that’s going on. I’ve decided to play the game like it was when you were a kid That’s what I try to do when I’m struggling a little bit get myself out of my head Stop thinking so much Just going back to this playing the game and falling in love with the game again and When you take when you play it like that It takes all of the pressure away, just allows you to play freely When you’re playing free you’re playing your best and you’re going to go as far as you can Yeah, my my first pro ball season ended second week of September September so I got home and took about a month off of everything I Was still in the gym a little bit and I’m doing a whole lot of stuff though Pushing too much weight now pushing my body to these things that I was when I got into the offseason Trying to stay a little bit active so I don’t get Too out of shape, but definitely gave my body a lot of time that it needed to recuperate after playing a full college season and then going and playing Half a pro ball season I took about a month off Really started getting back into the swing of things probably around late October early November And by that time I was ready to rock and roll. I was hitting about three times a week Not not too much, but just like ease it back into it. I didn’t start throwing yet and that’s when I started my lifting program We started out a little light at first just to work my body back into it again used to it again I did that for about a month and a half And then by Christmas break early January. I was in full swing hitting four or five times a week, pushing heavy weight Cardio, agility everyday. Just trying to stay in shape, get back in shape Started easy throwing again. Get my arm back in shape and by now, I’m ready to go ready to rock and roll I feel really strong, really healthy, ready to kill it Discussions are easy Yeah, what is it going to be on? probably readings and stuff That’s worse What I’m most looking forward to is just competing again This is the lonest I’ve been without actually competing in an actual game or a game-like scenario So I’m just ready to get back out on the field and start competing again playing against some dudes Going hard every day. Alright guys, that is gonna do it for today’s video. Thank you so much for watching and a big Thank you to AJ for doing this with me. You guys want to follow him on Instagram? It’s a J dot Li six I’ll have that kind of put up here. But yeah again, thanks AJ Thank you guys for watching if you haven’t liked commented or subscribe. What are you doing? You got to get on that? Alright guys, that’s gonna do it for today’s video. Thanks so much watching Derek from the baseball channel signing out from College Park

  1. The most viewed video about someone called "AJ Lee" this week. The wrestler has become so forgotten that she isn't even the most famous person with her name. Embarrassing for her 4 remaining fans.
