Porter Spartan Football Preview

The Porter Spartans are lining up for a new
season and with plenty of talent putting on pads and helmets, this season looks strong. 23 seniors are coming back to finish what
they started and there is a lot of talent to choose from. “ defense we are bringing 4 or 5 guys coming
back, a few more lettermen in addition to that. Offensive we have about 5 starters coming
back we have a few additional lettermen coming back as well. “
Working through the summer months, many varsity players rose to the challenge along with the
temperatures. While some are considered young as sophomores,
Coach Holley says they won’t play unless they are ready. “Sometimes kids are ready to play at a younger
age, sometimes they are not. It depends on the kid and the position and
all those things we take into consideration and we make the best judgement on calls. “ It’s always hot in Texas. It was hot this year, it was hot last year
and it’s going to be hot next year. It’s part of who we are and what we do. The thing we have to do it take care of our
kids, make sure they are hydrated and make sure they cool down. We have to observe and watch more than we
have in the past and that is a good thing. “
Holly says the district is loaded this year with Port Arthur and New Caney state-ranked
and a new coach at Galena Park and Goose Creek. But his Spartans will be ready for the first
whistle. “From top to bottom our district is going
to be very competitive it’s going to be a challenge but we are looking forward to that
challenge. “
