Spain’s handball team hope home advantage counts against Slovenia

Spain progressed to the last four of the World
Championship on home soil with a 28-23 triumph over Germany on Wednesday. It was revenge for Spain – Germany knocked
them out at the same stage of the 2007 edition of the tournament. Since 2005, all the hosts of the men’s World
Championship have made it as far as the semi final stage. “It’s really amazing to play semifinals at
home. We’ve got really good games with the crowds. A really good connection. And I hope
we will have them here at Sant Jordi because we need them.” Next up for the home side is an encounter
with Slovenia for a place in the final. Spain just missed out on a place in the final
last time around – losing to Denmark in the semi finals at the previous World Championship
in Sweden in 2011. Spain holds a single world championship won
in 2005 in Tunisia.
