Te Matatini gets bowled for Cricket World Cup

There’s a new date
for the next Te Matatini festival. The four-day event will now
take place from 4-8 March, 2015. Waitaha will still host the event
at Christchurch’s Hagley Park. The event was supposed to take place
a couple of weeks earlier, but would’ve meant a clash with
the ICC Cricket World Cup at the same venue,
around the same time. An Environment Court ruling meant
the Te Matatini Society and Waitaha Cultural Council
had no choice but to change the date of the world’s biggest
kapa haka extravaganza because the combined attendance
for both events will exceed the maximum limit set
by the Environment Court. Te Matatini Chairman
Selwyn Parata says while they are disappointed
about the move, they are committed to holding
the next Matatini in Christchurch.
